Juniper had babies today! However, I walked in the room when she just delivered them or was delivering. There was one baby on the edge of the hedgie bag and a lot of blood, but I think it wasn't too much blood. It could have been because it was fresh. She turned around in the bag and I noticed the placenta. I had never seen a hedgehog's. And there was a little baby that must have just been born because it needed a little cleaning up. That baby started squeaking and
Juniper looked like she turned around and started chopping on it. It cried a little and then stopped, but the munching was really loud. I'm not sure if she ate it or the placenta. Hopefully, it wasn't the baby.
Later I pushed the baby on the edge back in with a spoon. She had looked several times in the direction of the baby, but I don't think she saw it. Juniper huffed because her back was to the baby and was scared by the movement, but she turned around and accidentally pushed the baby all the way out. The baby was upside down, Juniper saw the legs wiggling in the air and picked the baby up to bring back into the bag. I did hear other squeaks in the bag so there are at least 2 babies. Juniper's babies are so big compared with the other hedgehogs.
Her babies are about 1 inch long and 3/4 inch wide. Very fat babies, but that's how they usually are for her.

This morning, I was getting ready to leave for the movie that I'm in and had a little emergency with Juniper and her babies. She was laying outside of her bag and her hedgie bag was on top of the water feeder. So I instantly thought she ate all the babies. It turns out she was nursing them all (4) out in the open. So I tried to drop a larger hedgie bag into her cage next to her in the dark and packed my things. When I came home that night, they were all in the bag, I think, except for 1, that I had to spoon into the bag. It was lost and I had no idea how long it was outside of the cage, but my room is about 75 degrees so it was still warm. Babies are blind until about 15 days and so it didn't know it wasn't with mom. I guess it thought the bag was mom.
There was blood on the liner, so I'm not sure if she ate a baby or not. I can't peek at this time, especially when she's with the babies, but I know there was at least 2 in the bag while I was spooning the lost baby in.

Tonight I checked the girl's cage. I had been keeping all my females, except for Penelope, together so I didn't have to clean as many cages. They were in a much bigger cage that one of my best friends got me. They had 2 litter boxes, 2 wheels, a big water feeder and a big bowl of food. I had been using a towel for multiple cage liners to line there cage. There were also 2 hedgie bags that could fit all 4 females together.
There were 5 females, but Sprinkles moved to Palmer, Alaska. I still have Olivia's babies from the last litter that she had in May. They are not old enough to breed and one is to go to Tacoma, Washington.
Anyway, I heard some chirping, but wasn't sure what happend. Then I realized that Juniper had her babies early! I was supposed to clean out her new cage and remove her tomorrow, but she already had them. So I carefully set up her new cage and picked up her hedgie bag that had her babies in it and moved her and the litter to the new cage. She wasn't happy, but she was so thirsty and hungery that she left the bag. She has 4 babies. I'm guess 3 will be albino and one is going to be a snowflake because the skin is brown and the quills are very white. We'll see what happens.

This morning, Juniper was put in Xavier's cage for breeding. Xavier is an albino and Juniper is a grey algerian, so they have the chances of being albino and algerian, but we won't know for sure until the beginning of November if the babies survive. If everything turns out they should be ready at the end of December.

Happy Independence Day!
Juniper's babies are up for adoption now! They are 8 weeks old today and I separated them from mom last night. They really enjoy running on their wheels. On the below picture, the picture with two hedgehogs are 2 different colors. The one on the top is my new hedgehog, he color is really rare (charcoal white snowflake). Juniper's 4 babies are all Algerian grays. The photo on the right shows what makes them Algerian. They have eye masks on their checks. Some eye patches are darker than others. There are 3 up for adoption in Juniper's litter. All of her babies are special because they are Algerian. They all have excellent personalities and love running around.

I peeked in Juniper's nest, but she extremely protective and has "hyper" senses. She can smell me if I am by the cage and she can see shadows move very easily. I poked the back of one baby who was half way out of the nest. It looked very crowded. Then later, while Juniper was eating, I looking in and saw at least 4 babies. I might be wrong because I had to count very quickly and it was hard to tell the jumbled pile of quills apart to see how many there were, but I think there are at least 4. Like I said, the nest was very crowded. More to come later, but the babies aren't even 2 weeks yet.

Finally! Juniper has had babies. There is a least one because I saw it through the entry way to the nesting box.
And then Juniper got extremely huffy. I'm so glad she finally had them, it has been 40 days and I was getting worried. I will be keeping at least 1 from this litter and 1 from Olivia's litter.

Juniper is still pretty huffy, but she is doing very well and is adjusting to light and other hedgehogs. I think she is currently pregnant, but there is no way to be sure until the end of the month. She is expecting around May 5th. Currently, she is sharing a cage with Olivia and is mellowing out, slightly.
Did I mention that I'm planning on keeping about 2 babies from Juniper and Olivia. I'm trying to expand my line because of the demand, so I'm planning on keeping some of the babies. Juniper and Olivia were bred with 2 completely different males from Tacoma, Washington.

Happy Easter!
Juniper is no longer with her babies, in fact, I am hoping that she is pregnant again. She was bred in Tacoma, Washington last weekend so that I could expand my herd. So I'm not sure how many babies will be available for adoption.
All of Juniper's babies turned out to be male and she had 1 albino male, 1 algerian grey male, and 1 brown algerian male. So Juniper has a strong algerian line and she is an algerian chocolate or grey.

Today, Juniper's babies are 3 weeks old. They are so adorable and the can open their eyes now.
The lighter brown one is a male and the other two are female.

I looked inside of Juniper's house last night. The babies are 1 week old and they are growing so well. I guess there are not 2 albinos. One is definately grey like mom and one is albino, but I think the third one is lighter than the grey. It almost looks like a snowflake! Or maybe it's brown, that would be great because I've never had a brown baby before.

Juniper has 3 babies. 1 looks very dark and the other 2 look very light. Perhaps the 2 light ones will be albinos.

Today, Juniper had babies. Not sure how many, but I saw at least one through the opening of the nesting house. She is still terribly huffy.

I have a new family member. Welcome Juniper to my herd. She is almost 2 years old and has had 2 litters before.
Juniper is from Nampa, Idaho and is taking a while to adjust. She has a very huffy personality.
